There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just across the border from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den gambling is against the law. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime location, a 3 to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is accurate of most borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship gambling den, features one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the normal table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive resort and hotel building that contains numerous comforts on top of the gambling hall, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight tables.
