There is a captivating history to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the border from nearby Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is banned. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively small location in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent destination, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The first Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau gambling hall, contains 150 one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. A total of 150 one armed bandits and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 one armed bandits and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel compound that contains many amenities in addition to the gambling hall, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and 88 gaming tables.
