There is a captivating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which gambling den gambling is illegal. Eight casinos are established in a generally tiny location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect destination, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be largely Thai; although, funding sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 17:00, and although visas are for all intents and purposes needed to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is true of many borders.
The initial Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling hall, contains 150 slot machine games and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long followed. A total of 150 one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 one armed bandits and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the normal gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slots and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive resort and hotel building that features many comforts aside from the gambling den, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slot machines and eighty eight tables.
